TEAM EXCEEDS GHG REDUCTION TARGET OF 1,000 TONS ANNUALLY AND DELIVERS REAL OPERATIONAL VALUE

Leprino’s Greeley Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Team began with an ambitious challenge: reduce GHG emissions by 1,000 tons annually and prove that sustainability can deliver real operational value. Bringing together team members from multiple departments, the group specifically focused on Scope 2 emissions and searched for practical ways to improve efficiency.

  • Scope 2 emissions are indirect greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the generation of purchased or acquired [energy] electricity, steam, heating and cooling.

Teamwork, persistence and a shared commitment to measurable impact, enabled the team to exceed the original reduction goal. Through projects such as lowering hot water temperature setpoints, optimizing utility cold water pump sequencing and optimizing CIP processes, the team achieved a total GHG reduction of 1,614 tons, including 1,027 tons of Scope 2 emissions. These efforts also saved 5.1 million gallons of water annually.

Their work is expected to generate nearly $500,000 in annual cost savings and create a scalable model for reducing emissions, conserving resources and strengthening operations across Leprino.

These results earned the team recognition as the 2025 Leprino Quality Continuous Improvement (LQCI) Global Responsibility Team of the Year. More importantly, their success showed how environmental responsibility and business performance can move together.

The cross-funcitonal team acieved success.
